Effect of Nonlinearity on Atmospheric Gravity Waves
Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1987Abstract The weakly nonlinear limit of two-dimensional gravity waves in an incompressible, inviscid and stably stratified atmosphere is studied. The three-wave resonant interaction theory indicates an energy cascade from a vertically propagating wave (primary wave) to waves having smaller absolute values of Doppler-shifted frequency (Ω).

Shear Excitation of Atmospheric Gravity Waves
Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1982Abstract Unstable Velocity shears are a Common source of vertically propagating gravity waves in the atmosphere. However, the growth rates of unstable modes predicted by linear theory cannot always amount for their observed importance. We examine in this paper, using a numerical model, the nonlinear excitation and evolution of atmospheric gravity waves.
