Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Wide field interferometric imaging with single-mode fibers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Classical single-mode fiber interferometers, using one fiber per aperture, have very limited imaging capabilities and small field of view. Observations of extended sources (resolved by one aperture) cannot be fully corrected for wavefront aberrations ...

The Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) on the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO)

open access: yes, 2011
The Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) provides multiple simultaneous high-resolution full-disk images of the corona and transition region up to 0.5 R⊙ above the solar limb with 1.5-arcsec spatial resolution and 12-second temporal resolution.

Performance evaluation of adaptive optics for atmospheric coherent laser communications.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2014
With extremely high sensitivity, the coherent laser communications has a large potential to be used in the long-range and high data-rate free space communication links. However, for the atmospheric turbulent links, the most significant factor that limits

Tribological Performance of 60NiTi Alloy Under Varying Contact Conditions and Elevated Temperatures in Linear Reciprocating Sliding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the tribological response of 60NiTi alloy under dry, water‐lubricated and high‐temperature conditions. The alloy exhibits decreasing wear volume and friction with increasing temperature due to the formation of protective oxide layers. The work clarifies dominant wear mechanisms and demonstrates the suitability of 60NiTi for high‐

Impacts of Transboundary Dust Transport on Aerosol Pollution in the Western Yangtze River Delta Region, China: Insights Gained From Ground‐Based Lidar and Satellite Observations

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, 2021
Dust storms pose a serious threat to air quality and public health through large‐scale, long‐distance transport. In early April 2018, two severe dust storm events occurred in the Taklimakan and Gobi Deserts in northwestern China.

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.
