Atmospheric Optical Communication System

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1977
The prototype atmospheric optical communication system has been developed, and various field tests have been carried out in Tokyo and Niigata. The system with a laser diode can transmit a 4-MHz color television signal or 120 telephone channels. This paper gives an outline description of system design based on field test results.

Optics of the Atmosphere

2012
7.1 Introduction The performance of ground-based telescopes is affected by the atmosphere in two ways: (1) absorption in the atmosphere limits the wavelength regions available for ground-based astronomy to several transparent or partially transparent windows; and (2) atmospheric turbulence limits the angular resolution of telescopes that are imaging

Optical diagnostics of the atmosphere

Russian Physics Journal, 1998
The theoretical principles of the method of polarized laser probing of an aspherical atmospheric aerosol, oriented in space, are considered. An approach to estimating the effectness of methods of spectroscopic diagnostics of organic molecules, based on the study of photophysical processes occurring in them, is described.

An Atmospherically Driven Optical Switch

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 1999
The atmospheric regulation of the photophysical properties of 1 gives rise to a new optical switch. This optical information can be translated with the utmost spatial and molecular economy using confocal single molecule spectroscopy. R=OH.

Optics of Atmospheric Haze

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1941
By means of a telescopic photometer measurements were made in daylight of b, the brightness of a large approximately blackbody at a distance d=3.2 km, and of h, the brightness of the sky just above the blackbody. For visual ranges v from 3.2 to 15 km the measurements agreed with the theoretical relations v=(1/β) log 1/η and β=(1/d) log (1/(1−b/h ...
