Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma activates lactate in Ringer’s solution for anti-tumor effects

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma is a novel approach for wound healing, blood coagulation, and cancer therapy. A recent discovery in the field of plasma medicine is that non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma not only directly but also indirectly

Challenges during Flash Lamp Annealing of Aerosol‐Deposited Barium Titanate Films

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aerosol deposition is used to rapidly deposit barium titanate films with thicknesses ranging from 2 to 16 μm at room temperature, eliminating the need for further densification. However, to recover the electromechanical properties, annealing is required, which limits the usage of temperature‐sensitive substrates.

Interaction of Atmospheric-Pressure Air Microplasmas with Amino Acids as Fundamental Processes in Aqueous Solution

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Plasma medicine is a relatively new field that investigates potential applications of cold atmospheric-pressure plasmas in bioengineering, such as for bacterial inactivation and degradation of organic molecules in water.

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

On the short-term prognosis of anticyclonic formations in Vilnius by the hard cosmic ray flux variations / Trumpalaikė anticiklonų formavimosi ties Vilniumi prognozė pagal kietosios kosminės spinduliuotės srauto svyravimus /

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Engineering and Landscape Management, 2011
Measurements and analyses of variations of the hard cosmic ray flux (HCRF) were carried out in the energy range 1.2–1.6 MeV in Vilnius in 2002–2005, using gamma-spectrometer.

Molecular and macromolecular structure changes in polyamide 11 during thermal oxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The present article reports a study of thermal oxidation of unstabilized polyamide 11 films at several temperatures (90–165 °C) under atmospheric pressure and under various oxygen pressures (up to 1.6 MPa) at 110 °C.

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

Black Sea Baric Depression

open access: yesPresent Environment and Sustainable Development, 2015
This work is meant to demonstrate that, in the special synoptic conditions, on the surface of the Black Sea, a baric depression is being formed. This depression is formed when the Black Sea's water temperature is higher than the surrounding continental ...
