Infrared spectrometer for ground-based profiling of atmospheric temperature and humidity

SPIE Proceedings, 1991
We describe an infrared spectrometer system designed for passive, ground-based remote profiling of atmospheric temperature and humidity. This instrument will be useful in atmospheric science, climate, and global change studies. We plan eventually to demonstrate its potential for unattended remote sensing.

Utility of CrIS/ATMS temperature and humidity profiles to diagnose the atmospheric duct

Remote Sensing and Modeling of Ecosystems for Sustainability XV, 2018
The accuracy of the temperature and humidity profiles is important for the atmospheric duct estimation, which is a special atmosphere layer for the radio-wave propagation. In order to use the dataset of satellite to monitor the atmospheric duct, we compare the temperature and humidity profiles between the radiosonde observation data (RAOB) and the NOAA-

On the velocity, temperature, and humidity profiles in the lower atmosphere

Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 1953
AbstractOn the basis of the assumption that the eddy viscosity, eddy conductivity, and eddy diffusivity are determined by the first and second differential coefficients of the mean velocity U, mean potential temperature Θ, and mean humidity X (specific humidity, mixing ratio, or water‐vapour pressure) the following formulae are obtained for the lower ...

Atmospheric Temperature and Absolute Humidity Profiles over the Beaufort Sea and Amundsen Gulf from a Microwave Radiometer

Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology, 2012
Abstract A Radiometrics MP-3000A microwave radiometric profiler (MWRP) provided high temporal resolution atmospheric profiles for temperature and absolute humidity up to 10 km, while 113 radiosondes were launched (and 68 were used in the analysis) over sea ice and the open ocean during the 2008 Circumpolar Flaw Lead System Study and the ...

Physics-based simultaneous retrieval of atmospheric temperature-humidity profiles and land surface temperature-emissivity by integrating Terra/Aqua MODIS measurements

Science China Physics, Mechanics and Astronomy, 2011
Atmospheric temperature-humidity profiles and land or sea surface temperature are coupled actions in the earth system process. Based on the numerical perturbation form of the atmospheric radiative transfer equation, a physics-based algorithm is presented to integrate four pairs of MODIS measurements from the Terra and Aqua satellites to retrieve ...

Use of temperature and humidity profiles derived from satellite retrievals for the derivation of atmospheric stability indices

2016 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2016
In this study, stability indices and parameters computed from vertical profiles of temperature and moisture generated by (a) the Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS) v9.2 derived from the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) and (b) the NOAA Unique Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS)/ATMS Processing System (NUCAPS) v1.5 are compared ...
