Numerical Modeling of Direct Current Plasma Versus Natural Gas‐Heated Steelmaking Ladles: Validation via Full‐Scale Industrial Measurements

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study explores using DC plasma torches with nitrogen as a carrier gas for preheating large steelmaking ladles. Numerical models simulate ladles preheated by 0.7 and 1.5 MW plasma torches, compared to natural gas heating. Results show plasma torches achieve significantly higher bottom temperatures, validated by industrial measurements on full‐sized

Physical Modeling and Fluid Dynamic Simulation of Steel Desulfurization by Reagent Injection through the Bottom of the Ladle

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The effects of the carrier gas flow rate, injected by tuyere into the bottom of the ladle, on the bubble size, velocity profile by particle image velocimetry and computational fluid dynamic techniques, mixing time, and mass transfer are investigated by means of laboratory experiments.

Woven Eutectic Lamellar Structures Lead to Ultrahigh Strength and Energy Absorption Capacity in Additively Manufactured Lattice Structures

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
Herein, AlCoCrFeNi2.1 is selected to produce lattice structures by selective laser melting. The as‐printed lattice structures consist of numerous colonies of nanosized eutectic lamellar structures which are bent and interwind with each other to form a woven microstructure. The unique microstructure leads to unprecedented effective metal strength, yield

Moiré Ferroelectricity in Twisted Multilayer SnSe2

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
By introducing both screw and layered twists, Moiré ferroelectricity is generated in chemical vapor deposited twisted multilayer SnSe2, which arises from the periodic modulation of symmetry and local electronic states. The resulting multistate ferroelectric behavior, with polarization responses, demonstrates the potential for next‐generation advanced ...

Upper airway obstruction due to aspiration of the tamponading gauze swab placed following severe blood loss during sinus flap surgery in a Shetland pony (Equus caballus)

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract A 24‐year‐old pony, weighing 130 kg, was presented with chronic sinusitis despite previous tooth extraction and sinus trephination in standing sedation. General anaesthesia was induced for a maxillary sinus flap. Severe haemorrhage occurred, which required tamponade of the sinus using a gauze swab.
