A Spectrum of Refractive Turbulence in the Turbulent Atmosphere

Journal of Modern Optics, 1990
Abstract An analytic approximation to the optical refractive-index spectrum of atmosphere turbulence is presented.

Expressing oceanic turbulence parameters by atmospheric turbulence structure constant.

Applied Optics, 2016
The parameters composing oceanic turbulence are the wavelength, link length, rate of dissipation of kinetic energy per unit mass of fluid, rate of dissipation of mean-squared temperature, Kolmogorov microscale, and the ratio of temperature to salinity ...

Turbulent bursts in the atmosphere

Atmospheric Environment. Part A. General Topics, 1990
Although the spectral description of turbulent flows has provided some valuable clues about pollutant dispersion in the atmosphere, there has been a growing feeling that such a description may be too limited for providing an understanding of the dynamics as detailed phase information is discarded.

Turbulence in the Atmosphere

2010
Based on his 40+ years of research and teaching, John Wyngaard's textbook is an excellent up-to-date introduction to turbulence in the atmosphere and in engineering flows for advanced students, and a reference work for researchers in the atmospheric sciences. Part I introduces the concepts and equations of turbulence.

On the atmosphere with exponential turbulence

Icarus, 1979
An exact calculation is presented for the photon-average bending angle and intensity produced during occultation of a point source by an isothermal atmosphere with an exponential height dependence of turbulent power. The calculation is performed via an expansion in powers the gradients of average refractivity and turbulent power.

Reciprocity of the Turbulent Atmosphere*

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1971
The reciprocity theorem of Helmholtz is extended to the clear turbulent atmosphere. Two impulse responses (Green’s functions) are defined to characterize optical propagation in opposite directions between two parallel planar apertures separated by the turbulent atmosphere.

Atmospheric turbulence mitigation based on turbulence extraction

IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2016
A video taken under the influence of atmospheric turbulence suffers from serious distortion caused by the variation of optical refractive index. In order to reduce geometric distortion and time-space-varying blur, and recover both coarse structure and ...

An Introduction to Atmospheric Turbulence [PDF]

open access: possible, 1997
Atmospheric turbulence seriously affects the process of image formation, through the corrugation of the phase in the wavefront coming from an astronomical source, or other sources, such as artificial laser stars, satellites, etc. observed through the terrestrial atmosphere.

Restoring atmospheric-turbulence-degraded images.

Applied Optics, 2016
Image data experiences geometric distortions and spatial-temporal varying blur due to the strong effects of random spatial and temporal variations in the optical refractive index of the communication path.

Atmospheric Turbulence

2008
This book, authored by a well-known researcher and expositor in meteorology, focuses on the direct link between molecular dynamics, turbulence theory, fluid mechanics and non equilibrium statistical mechanics, it is relevant to the fields of applied mathematics, physics and atmospheric sciences, and focuses on fluid flow and turbulence, as well as on ...
