Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Scale‐Dependent Drivers of Air‐Sea CO2 Flux Variability

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
In climate studies, it is crucial to distinguish between changes caused by natural variability and those resulting from external forcing. Here we use a suite of numerical experiments based on the ECCO‐Darwin ocean biogeochemistry model to separate the ...

Scale-dependency of surface fluxes in an atmospheric mesoscale model: effect of spatial heterogeneity in atmospheric conditions [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2008
We examined the nonlinear effect of spatial heterogeneity in atmospheric conditions on the simulation of surface fluxes in the mesoscale model, MM5 by testing their scale-invariance from a tower footprint to regional scales.

Fast‐Responding O2 Gas Sensor Based on Luminescent Europium Metal‐Organic Frameworks (MOF‐76)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Luminescent MOF‐76 materials based on Eu(III) and mixed Eu(III)/Y(III) show rapid and reversible changes in emission intensity in response to O2 with very short response times. The effect is based on triplet quenching of the linker ligands that act as photosensitizers. Average emission lifetimes of a few milliseconds turn out to be mostly unaffected by

Enhanced Occurrence of Atmospheric Blocking in the Southern Hemisphere by Baroclinic Annular Mode

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Atmospheric blocking is a large‐amplitude, quasi‐stationary, and long‐lasting flow regime in the extratropics. To understand the physical processes governing the occurrence of atmospheric blocking, we identify that the positive phase of Baroclinic ...

Electroactive Metal–Organic Frameworks for Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrocatalysis is crucial in sustainable energy conversion as it enables efficient chemical transformations. The review discusses how metal–organic frameworks can revolutionize this field by offering tailorable structures and active site tunability, enabling efficient and selective electrocatalytic processes.

Back-to-back high category atmospheric river landfalls occur more often on the west coast of the United States

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
The catastrophic December 2022-January 2023 nine atmospheric rivers in California underscore the urgent need to better understand such high-risk weather extremes.

Implementation of Drug‐Induced Rhabdomyolysis and Acute Kidney Injury in Microphysiological System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A modular Muscle–Kidney proximal tubule‐on‐a‐chip integrates 3D skeletal muscle and renal proximal tubule tissues to model drug‐induced rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury. The coculture system enables dynamic tissue interaction, functional contraction monitoring, and quantification of nephrotoxicity, revealing drug side effect‐induced metabolic ...

MOFs and COFs in Electronics: Bridging the Gap between Intrinsic Properties and Measured Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) hold promise for advanced electronics. However, discrepancies in reported electrical conductivities highlight the importance of measurement methodologies. This review explores intrinsic charge transport mechanisms and extrinsic factors influencing performance, and critically ...
