Optically pumped semiconductor lasers for atomic and molecular physics

SPIE Proceedings, 2015
Experiments in atomic, molecular and optical (AMO) physics rely on lasers at many different wavelengths and with varying requirements on spectral linewidth, power and intensity stability. Optically pumped semiconductor lasers (OPSLs), when combined with nonlinear frequency conversion, can potentially replace many of the laser systems currently in use ...

Applications of Optical Cavities in Modern Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics

2003
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses applications of optical cavities in modern atomic, molecular, and optical physics. For many contemporary physics experiments, the use of an optical cavity has become a powerful tool for enhancement in detection sensitivities, nonlinear interactions, and quantum dynamics. Indeed, an optical cavity allows one to

Essay: Fifty Years of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics in Physical Review Letters

Physical Review Letters, 2008
The fiftieth anniversary of Physical Review Letters is a good opportunity to review the extraordinary progress of atomic, molecular, and optical physics reported in this journal during the past half-century. As both a witness and an actor of this story, I recall personal experiences and reflect about the past, present, and possible future of my field ...

1996
Abstract : A ring Ti/dye laser was purchased from Coherent Laser, model 899-21. The laser has been used in experiments involving metastable atom beam cooling. During this work the investigators developed a method of measuring laser line width that can be directly related to the fundamental quantities time and distance.
