Atomic precision imaging with an on-chip scanning tunneling microscope integrated into a commercial ultrahigh vacuum STM system

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology B, Nanotechnology and Microelectronics: Materials, Processing, Measurement, and Phenomena, 2021
In this article, we replace the Z axis of the piezotube of a conventional Ultrahigh-Vacuum (UHV) Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) with a one-degree-of-freedom Microelectromechanical-System (MEMS) nanopositioner. As a result, a hybrid system is realized in which motions in the XY plane are carried out by the piezotube, while the MEMS device performs ...

On-chip atomic force microscopy: Mechatronic system design and control

2016 American Control Conference (ACC), 2016
The atomic force microscope (AFM) has been recognized as an invaluable tool for researchers working in a wide range of nanotechnology-related fields. The AFM is a mechatronic microscope that is able to interrogate the surface of physical samples to produce 3D images with atomic resolution.

Miniature Bose–Einstein condensate system design based on a transparent atom chip

Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, 2016
We propose a new miniature Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) system based on a transparent atom chip with a compact external coil structure. A standard six-beam macroscopic magneto-optical trap (MOT) is able to be created near the chip surface due to the chip's transparency.

Atomic Streaming: A Framework of On-Chip Data Supply System for Task-Parallel MPSoCs

IEEE Computer Architecture Letters, 2012
State of the art fabrication technology for integrating numerous hardware resources such as Processors/DSPs and memory arrays into a single chip enables the emergence of Multiprocessor System-on-Chip (MPSoC). Stream programming paradigm based on MPSoC is highly efficient for single functionality scenario due to its dedicated and predictable data supply
