Operation of a Microfabricated Planar Ion-Trap for Studies of a Yb$^+$-Rb Hybrid Quantum System

open access: yes, 2019
In order to study interactions of atomic ions with ultracold neutral atoms, it is important to have sub-$\mu$m control over positioning ion crystals. Serving for this purpose, we introduce a microfabricated planar ion trap featuring 21 DC electrodes. The

Direct Recycling of Cold Work Tool Steel Swarf into New Cutting Disks via Field‐Assisted Sintering

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Through a sintering method known as field‐assisted sintering technology/spark plasma sintering, cold work tool steel swarf can be directly recycled into new cutting disks. This method is capable of densifying the unconventional powder morphology of swarf, and it can also seal grinding contaminants, such as Al2O3, into the steel matrix.

Removing Homocoupling Defects in Alkoxy/Alkyl‐PBTTT Enhances Polymer:Fullerene Co‐Crystal Formation and Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
PBTTT‐OR‐R, a C14‐alkoxy/alkyl‐PBTTT polymer derivative, is of substantial interest for optoelectronics due to its specific fullerene intercalation behavior and enhanced charge‐transfer absorption. Comparing this polymer with (S) and without (O) homocoupling defects reveals that PBTTT‐OR‐R(O) forms stable co‐crystals with PC61BM, while PBTTT‐OR‐R(S ...

Nano‐Patterned CuO Nanowire Nanogap Hydrogen Gas Sensor with Voids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
Sub‐5‐ppb hydrogen (H2) detection and sub‐10‐s response and recovery times are achieved based on nano‐patterned polycrystalline CuO nanowires nanogap gas sensors with voids using electron‐beam lithography and unique annealing processes. Pre‐H2 annealing, void‐generating oxidation, and downscaled nanogap electrodes are key to improving the sensing ...

Macroscopic Entanglement of a Bose Einstein Condensate on a Superconducting Atom Chip

open access: yes, 2007
We propose and analyse a practically implementable scheme to generate macroscopic entanglement of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a micro-magnetic trap magnetically coupled to a superconducting loop.

Dynamical tunnelling with ultracold atoms in magnetic microtraps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The study of dynamical tunnelling in a periodically driven anharmonic potential probes the quantum-classical transition via the experimental control of the effective Planck's constant for the system.

Structurally Colored Physically Unclonable Functions with Ultra‐Rich and Stable Encoding Capacity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
This study reports a design strategy for generating bright‐field resolvable physically unclonable functions with extremely rich encoding capacity coupled with outstanding thermal and chemical stability. The optical response emerges from thickness‐dependent structural color formation in ZnO features, which are fabricated by physical vapor deposition ...

Engineering the Hierarchical Porosity of Granular Hydrogel Scaffolds Using Porous Microgels to Improve Cell Recruitment and Tissue Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
By fabricating and covalently assembling gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) porous microgels, a new class of granular hydrogel scaffolds with hierarchical porosity is developed. These scaffolds have a significantly higher void fraction than their counterparts made up of nonporous microgels, enhancing cell recruitment and tissue integration. This research may

894 nm high temperature operating vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser and its application in Cs chip-scale atomic-clock system

open access: yesActa Physica Sinica, 2016
In this study, an 894 nm high temperature vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is reported. Furthermore, a Cs chip-scale atomic clock (CSAC) system experiment based on this VCSEL is carried out.To achieve low threshold/power consumption under high temperature condition, the VCSEL epitaxial structure is optimized.
