A series of hybrid catalysts, comprising a tethered ligand immobilized catalyst operating in conjunction with a small amount of soluble catalyst, were evaluated for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The level of control over the ATRP of vinyl monomers was significantly improved by the addition of part per million levels of a soluble catalyst,

Surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) of styrene from chitosan particles
Materials Letters, 2006Polystyrene grafted chitosan particles (PS-Chitosan) were successfully prepared by the surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) of styrene from the macroinitiators, bromo-acetyl chitosans with their surface amino and hydroxyl groups, in toluene system with the catalysts of 1,10-phenanthroline and Cu(I)Br.

1 New catalysts for controlled/living atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP)
2003Abstract Controlled/living radical polymerization (CRP) is one of the most rapidly developing areas of synthetic chemistry. Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is the only catalyzed method among CRPs. It enables synthesis of many well-defined polymers with controlled topology, composition and functionality.

Macromolecular Theory and Simulations, 2010
AbstractKinetic simulations using the composite kt model allows a better understanding of the effects of the persistent radical affecting ATRP or for that matter any activation–deactivation system. It also provides a better fit to experimental data in either bulk or solution conditions for ATRP polymerizations carried out at 110 °C. The results suggest
