Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy

2019
This chapter reviews atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), which is an elemental analysis technique used to identify and quantify the elements present in a sample matrix. It states that AAS is fundamentally a form of ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption spectroscopy that requires the analyte to be first converted to atomic vapour prior to analysis ...

Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy

Analytical Chemistry, 1960
To monitor the internal state of the cuvette in an atomic absorption spectrometer, a video camera (16) is arranged to be capable of viewing the inside of a cuvette 10 within its sample furnace 2. Retractable mirrors M4 and M8, which are insertable simultaneously in the measurement path 7 to direct the radiation around the cuvette and along a reference ...

Atomic absorption spectroscopy. Stagnant or pregnant

Analytical Chemistry, 1974
WHEN Foil Miller invited me to participate in the Silver Anniversary Symposium on Great Moments in Analytical Chemistry, he suggested that I may care to indulge in some personal reminiscences and comments regarding the development and present status of atomic absorption spectroscopy.

Table 1 shows the main absorption wavelengths for tin [1 – 3] and their sensitivity (concentration of tin in µg/ml required to give 1 % absorption). It will be seen from Table 1 that some of the secondary absorption lines do not originate in the 3P0 ground state but in the thermally-populated 3P1,2 levels.

Atomic absorption spectroscopy

2014
A review was presented of the development of Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) in the period 1950-1990. The origins of AAS as an analytical technique were shown to be based on the work of astrophysicists, including an early instrument utilising a continuum light source devised by Sir Joseph Norman Lockyer, the first editor of Nature, in the late ...
