Coherent atomic spectroscopy

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1988
Abstract The Argonne Spectroscopy Laboratory, initiated and advanced over several decades by F.S. Tomkins and M. Fred, has been a major international facility. A range of collaborative work in atomic spectroscopy is selected to illustrate advances in experimental physics which have been made possible by combination of the talents of Tomkins and Fred ...

Coherence Effects in Cold Cesium Atoms

Physica Scripta, 1998
We have studied a ladder and a Λ system on cold Cesium atoms released from a magneto optical trap. Probe absorption spectra have been satisfactorily interpreted in terms of a non degenerate three level model at low pump power. At higher power a sum of non interacting three level systems is adequate to predict line positions.

Large polarization rotation via atomic coherence

Optics Letters, 2001
We report significant enhancement of the nonlinear Faraday rotation in optically thick Rb vapor. Polarization rotation angles as large as 10 rad were observed for what is believed to be the first time for sub-Gauss magnetic fields. The use of this effect for high-precision magnetometry is also discussed.

Time-Energy Entangled Photon Pairs from Doppler-Broadened Atomic Ensemble Via Collective Two-Photon Coherence

2019 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC), 2018
Quantum entanglement first attracted attention as the heart of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) paradox and one of the most counterintuitive phenomena in the view of classical physics [1].

Atom lasers, coherent states, and coherence

2003
In elementary presentations of quantum optics it is more or less an axiom that lasers produce coherent light. However, theoretical models for typical laser processes imply that the state of the cavity mode for a laser has no mean coherent amplitude at all.

Magnon coherent conductance via atomic nanocontacts

Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2007
A calculation for the coherent scattering and conductance of magnons via atomic nanocontacts is presented. The model system is composed of two groups of semi-infinite magnetically ordered Heisenberg monatomic chains, joined together by the magnetic nanocontact, and the system is supported on a non-magnetic substrate and considered otherwise free from ...

Enhancing Sensitivity of Atomic Microwave Receivers Based on Optimal Laser Arrays

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation
Rydberg atom, which exhibits a strong response to weak electric fields, is regarded as a promising atomic receiver to surpass the sensitivity of conventional receivers.

Atom coherence propagation in a magnetic atomic waveguide

Journal of Optics B: Quantum and Semiclassical Optics, 2001
The quantum motion of atoms in a magnetic waveguide is discussed on the basis of our magnetic atom guidance model. The coherence evolution of atoms initially in the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) state during propagation along the waveguide is investigated in detail and the first-order and second-order atomic correlation functions are obtained.

Atomic coherences and level-crossings physics

Solar Physics, 1996
A synthesis work about the interaction of matter with polarized radiation, applied to solar magnetic field diagnostics, has recently been done by Stenflo (1994). This synthesis uses the classical theory of matter-radiation interaction - supplemented by the theory of partial redistribution of Omont, Smith, and Cooper (1972), on the one hand, and full ...
