Face detection by optimal atomic decomposition
SPIE Proceedings, 2005Atomic decompositions are lower-cost alternatives to the principal component analysis (PCA) in tasks where sparse signal representation is required. In pattern classifications tasks, e.g. face detection, a careful selection of atoms is needed in order to ensure an optimal and fast-operating decomposition to be used in the feature extraction stage.

Atomic decomposition from S-functions
2001In this section we prove the following: Theorem 5.1. Let $$ \left\{ {\varphi _1 ,\varphi _2 , \cdots ,\varphi _J } \right\} \subset S $$ (5.1) and $$ \sup \left\{ {\sum\limits_{i = 1}^J {\left| {F\varphi _i \left( {t\xi } \right)} \right|} :t > 0} \right\} > 0{\rm{ }}for{\rm{ }}any{\rm{ }}\xi \in {\rm{R}}^n \backslash \left\{ 0 \right\}. $$

Unknown signal detection via atomic decomposition
Proceedings of the 11th IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Statistical Signal Processing (Cat. No.01TH8563), 2002A detector using atomic decomposition with a chirplet dictionary is analyzed. It is derived from the generalized likelihood ratio test and has constant false alarm rate. The atomic decomposition is performed via a genetic algorithm and compared with previous approaches.
