Etoposide‐induced cancer cell death: roles of mitochondrial VDAC1 and calpain, and resistance mechanisms

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

Evolution of energy and angular distributions of sputtered atoms with variation of atomic number of single crystal target [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Ejection of atoms from (001) surfaces of a number of real and model single crystals is studied by molecular dynamics computer simulation. Evolution of energy distributions of sputtered atoms with polar and azimuthal angle resolution with increase of atomic number of the target is investigated.

Motion of Rydberg atoms induced by resonant dipole-dipole interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We show that nuclear motion of Rydberg atoms can be induced by resonant dipole-dipole interactions that trigger the energy transfer between two energetically close Rydberg states. How and if the atoms move depends on their initial arrangement as well as on the initial electronic excitation.

Stress, strain, neutron transport and radiation effects in a full fusion tokamak device: A virtual MAST-U study [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
A finite-element method (FEM) model for the Mega-Ampere Spherical Tokamak - Upgrade (MAST-U) fusion tokamak has been developed to evaluate stress and deformations in the full device structure and to assess the stability of the whole tokamak with respect ...

Exact solution, scaling behaviour and quantum dynamics of a model of an atom-molecule Bose-Einstein condensate

open access: yes, 2002
We study the exact solution for a two-mode model describing coherent coupling between atomic and molecular Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC), in the context of the Bethe ansatz.

Respiratory complex I‐mediated NAD+ regeneration regulates cancer cell proliferation through the transcriptional and translational control of p21Cip1 expression by SIRT3 and SIRT7

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
NAD+ regeneration by mitochondrial complex I NADH dehydrogenase is important for cancer cell proliferation. Specifically, NAD+ is necessary for the activities of NAD+‐dependent deacetylases SIRT3 and SIRT7, which suppress the expression of p21Cip1 cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitor, an antiproliferative molecule, at the translational and transcriptional

Observation of elastic collisions between lithium atoms and calcium ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We observed elastic collisions between laser-cooled fermionic lithium atoms and calcium ions at the energy range from 100 mK to 3 K. Lithium atoms in an optical-dipole trap were transported to the center of the ion trap using an optical tweezer technique, and a spatial overlap of the atoms and ions was realized in order to observe the atom-ion ...

Study on applicability of fast reactor plant dynamics analysis code to core thermal hydraulics under natural circulation decay heat removal conditions

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2017
A plant dynamics analysis code named Super-COPD is being developed in Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) to offer a methodology for the design and safety assessments of future commercialized sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFRs).

Quantum Chemistry, Anomalous Dimensions, and the Breakdown of Fermi Liquid Theory in Strongly Correlated Systems

open access: yes, 1993
We formulate a local picture of strongly correlated systems as a Feynman sum over atomic configurations. The hopping amplitudes between these atomic configurations are identified as the renormalization group charges, which describe the local physics at ...

CircCCNB1 inhibits vasculogenic mimicry by sequestering NF90 to promote miR‐15b‐5p and miR‐7‐1‐3p processing in nasopharyngeal carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CircCCNB1 expression is down‐regulated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC); thus, less NF90 protein is bound to circCCNB1 and more binds to pri‐miRNAs, blocking their (pri‐miRNAs) binding to DGCR8 and inhibiting the processing and generation of miR‐15b‐5p/miR‐7‐1‐3p. Furthermore, decreased miR‐15b‐5p/miR‐7‐1‐3p promotes the expression of the target genes
