Contamination by heavy metals from mining activities: An ecological impact assessment of Mura and Kimpulande Rivers, Democratic Republic of the Congo

open access: yesWatershed Ecology and the Environment, 2022
The contamination levels and distribution of heavy metals were assessed in riverbed sediments and water column samples from Mura and Kimpulande Rivers, both impacted by copper-cobalt and gold mining activities.

Process Parameter and Dimension‐Dependent Mn Vaporization During Laser Powder Bed Fusion of an Fe–Mi–Si–Cr‐Based Shape Memory Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The functional properties of Fe–Mn–Si–Cr‐based shape memory alloys are influenced, among other things, by their chemical composition. Here, the vaporization of Mn, the most volatile element of the alloy, is investigated. It is shown that the process parameters make noninterchangeable contributions to the vaporization and that vaporization differences ...

Discussion on Influence of Residues in Instruments on Detection of Selenium and Tellurium by Hydride Generation-Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry

open access: yesYankuang ceshi, 2013
: During the analyses of ore and rock samples by Hydride Generation-Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry (HG-AFS), many residues were formed in the tubes in which the hydride was generated, transport channelled and atomized.

In‐Situ Growth of 2D MOFs as a Molecular Sieving Layer on SnS2 Nanoflakes for Realizing Ultraselective H2S Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
The ultraselective H2S detection of the ZIF‐L/SnS2 heterostructure is demonstrated. The introduction of 2‐dimensional (2D) breathable ZIF‐L results in a substantial increase in H2S selectivity attributable to the molecular sieving effect, which impedes the permeation of gases with large kinetic diameters and high polarity.

3D elemental imaging of the crustacean Ceriodaphnia by means of SR confocal micro-XRF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Daphnia is a freshwater crustacean (0.2-5 mm height) used for investigating the toxic effects of toxins (e.g. metals) on an ecosystem. Synchrotron radiation based micro X-ray fluorescence (SR micro-XRF) allows the investigation of the trace level metal ...

3D Printed Ultra‐Fast Plastic Scintillators Based on Perovskite‐Photocurable Polymer Composite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
The demand for radiation detection is increasing in a number of fields, including high‐energy physics, medical imaging, and homeland security. This study serves to demonstrate the potential for the fabrication of fast perovskite‐based scintillators with complex shapes via stereolithographic additive manufacturing, representing a new path toward the ...

Structurally Colored Physically Unclonable Functions with Ultra‐Rich and Stable Encoding Capacity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
This study reports a design strategy for generating bright‐field resolvable physically unclonable functions with extremely rich encoding capacity coupled with outstanding thermal and chemical stability. The optical response emerges from thickness‐dependent structural color formation in ZnO features, which are fabricated by physical vapor deposition ...

Self‐Cascade Catalytic Reaction–Assisted Apoptosis/Calcicoptosis/Ferroptosis Induction with Microsphere‐Aggregated Hydrogels in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hyaluronic acid‐dopamine‐based intra‐crosslinked microsphere including cisplatin (HPC MS) is fabricated by spray‐drying and calcium/iron ions are introduced for interparticle crosslinking. Designed microsphere‐aggregated hydrogel (MAH) system including cisplatin/CaO2/FeSO4 can provide apoptosis/calcicoptosis/ferroptosis‐mediated chemo/cascade ...
