Magnetoencephalography with an atomic magnetometer

Applied Physics Letters, 2006
The authors demonstrate detection and mapping of brain magnetic fields evoked by auditory stimulation with a noncryogenic magnetometer based on spin precession of potassium atoms in spin-exchange-relaxation-free regime. Optical readout using a photodiode array allows flexibility in detector placement while using common elements for most components of ...

MICROFABRICATED ATOMIC CLOCKS AND MAGNETOMETERS

Laser Spectroscopy, 2005
We demonstrate the critical subsystems of compact atomic clocks and magnetometers based on microfabricated physics packages. The clock components have a volume below 5 cm3, a fractional frequency instability below 6times10-10tau1/2, and consume 200 mW of power.

Highly sensitive multi-channel atomic magnetometer

2018 IEEE Sensors Applications Symposium (SAS), 2018
We describe a high-sensitivity 16-channel magnetic sensor based on a spin-exchange relaxation-free (SERF) atomic magnetometer, the most sensitive cryogen-free magnetic field sensor. It has been developed in order to accelerate magnetic measurements in various fields, such as neuroscience and biomedical research, and improve the current technologies ...

Magnetic Resonance Based Atomic Magnetometers

2016
The chapter gives a comprehensive account of the theory of atomic magnetometers deploying optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) in spin-polarized atomic ensembles, and of the practical realization of such magnetometers. We address single laser beam experiments throughout, but give explicit hints on how the results can be extended to pump-probe ...

A frequency selective atom interferometer magnetometer

Journal of Modern Optics, 2014
In this article, we discuss the magnetic-field frequency selectivity of a time-domain interferometer based on the number and timing of intermediate pulses. We theoretically show that by adjusting the number of pulses and the -pulse timing, we can control the frequency selectivity of the interferometer to time varying and DC magnetic fields.

Single-beam three-axis atomic magnetometer

Applied Physics Letters, 2016
A single-beam atomic magnetometer being operated near zero-field and measuring three-axis fields simultaneously is demonstrated. We produce a rotating field on the x-0-y plane with the frequency of 90 Hz and a modulation field in the z axis at 130 Hz.

A Miniature Wide Band Atomic Magnetometer

2011
Abstract : Magnetometers and electromagnetic (EM) devices are two of the most commonly used instruments for searching for UXO. Research in this area has progressed from the problem of detecting possible UXO items to that of discriminating between hazardous and non-hazardous underground objects. Accurate identification of underground items requires that
