Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Melting point gram-atomic volumes and enthalpies of atomization for liquid elements [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
Values of the gram-atomic volumes and enthalpies of atomization to the monatomic ideal gas state for liquid elements at their melting points are collected to facilitate predictions of the behavior of mixed systesm. Estimated values are given for experimentally undetermined quantities.

An Iterative Bézier Method for Fitting Beta-sheet Component of a Cryo-EM Density Map

open access: yesComputational and Mathematical Biophysics, 2017
Cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM) is a powerful technique to produce 3-dimensional density maps for large molecular complexes. Although many atomic structures have been solved from cryo-EM density maps, it is challenging to derive atomic structures when

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Effects of Melt/Solid Volume Ratio and Rotational Speed on the Interface of Al/Mg Bimetal in Centrifugal Casting

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Materials in Engineering, 2016
In this study, centrifugal casting process was used for producing Al/Mg bimetal. Molten Mg was poured at 700 oC, with 1.5 and 3 melt-to-solid volume ratio (Vm/Vs) into the 450 oC preheated solid Al rotating at 800, 1200, 1600 and 2000 rpm.

Blood‐based proteomic profiling reveals context‐dependent changes in BCL2‐associated signaling during taxane therapy in breast cancer patients

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

The use of artificial structure as an initial reference model for projection-matching three dimensional reconstruction: visualization of macromolecular structure using cryo-electron microscopy

open access: yesJournal of Analytical Science and Technology, 2010
Projection-matching single particle three dimensional reconstruction following to electron microscopy is the one of common methods to visualize three dimensional structures of target macromolecules or protein-protein interaction at medium or near-atomic ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for
