Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

1. Note on the Atomic Volume of Solid Substances [PDF]
The investigation of the volume retained by different elementary substances, when combined in the solid condition, has attracted the attention of many chemists. We have only to look at the laborious memoirs of Schröter, Kopp, Playfair and Joule, Boullay, Filhol, and others, to be convinced of the great amount of labour expended on the subject.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

The effect of excess atomic volume on He bubble formation at fcc–bcc interfaces
Atomistic modeling shows that Cu–Nb and Cu–V interfaces contain high excess atomic volume due to constitutional vacancy concentrations of ∼5 at. % and ∼0.8 at. %., respectively. This finding is supported by experiments demonstrating that an approximately

Laser machining fundamentals: micro, nano, atomic and close-to-atomic scales
With the rapid development in advanced industries, such as microelectronics and optics sectors, the functional feature size of devises/components has been decreasing from micro to nanometric, and even ACS for higher performance, smaller volume and lower ...
