Atomic Spectrometry Update–Atomic mass spectrometry

Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry, 1996
The MS and XRF updates have been published together since their introduction in 1988. In the last few years, however, the two sections have been prepared independently of each other and it therefore seemed appropriate to publish the two sections separately.

Atom für Atom

Chemie in unserer Zeit, 2013

Atom-by-atom assembly

Reports on Progress in Physics, 2014
Atomic manipulation using a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) tip enables the construction of quantum structures on an atom-by-atom basis, as well as the investigation of the electronic and dynamical properties of individual atoms on a one-atom-at-a-time basis.

Nanofabricated atom optics: Atom chips

Journal of Modern Optics, 2000
Small tight trapping and guiding potentials can be created for neutral atoms moving microns above surfaces patterned with nanofabricated charged and current-carrying structures.

Atom–Atom Scattering

1991
Abstract Atomic collisions are normal1y termed elastic or inelastic. The former lead simply to momentt1m transfer between the collision partners, or equivalently to a change in the direction of their motions; the latter lead also to a simultaneous transfer of energy between internal motion and translation.

Atomic spectrometry update. Atomic mass spectrometry

Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry, 2006
The review this year is dominated by the large number of publications on AMS, ICP-MS and SIMS. The increasing number of new AMS installations bears witness to the increasing interest in the technique now that smaller and simpler systems are becoming more widely available.

ATOMIC CLOCKS AND COLD ATOM SCATTERING

Laser Spectroscopy, 2002
We demonstrate a Rb fountain clock which has a small cold collision shift that is cancelled by detuning the microwave cavity. To further enhance the stability and accuracy, we are currently developing a new state detection technique that directly measures population differences and are juggling atoms in the fountain. Fountain clocks also enable a novel

Equilibrium atomic structure: Rotating atoms

Physical Review Letters, 1986
Exact rigid body solutions for two-electron atoms have been derived within classical mechanics. These solutions describe equilibrium constellations of the electrons, i.e. the electrons do not experience any force within these constellations. Moreover it is shown that exactly two nondegenerate equilibria exist.

Atom–Atom Interactions

2014
Up to this point, we have only alluded to the effect that the interactions between identical atoms have on the spectral properties. In many cases, these inter-particle interactions are negligible. However, if the atoms are separated by less than the transition wavelength \(\lambda \), resonant dipole-dipole interactions become important.
