Thermodynamic metal melting bases. Foundry production and metallurgy
Based on thermodynamic calculations, it is shown that metal melting is an equilibrium process that occurs at a constant temperature. In melting, microcrystals mainly disintegrate into nanocrystals.

About solid solutions of alloys
It is shown that the open pores of the crystal lattices of iron, manganese, titanium, cobalt cannot contain hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and carbon atoms. In solid solutions of alloys, hydrogen and oxygen atoms are present in the adsorbed state.

Buffer gas loaded magneto-optical traps for Yb, Tm, Er and Ho
Direct loading of lanthanide atoms into magneto-optical traps (MOTs) from a very slow cryogenic buffer gas beam source is achieved, without the need for laser slowing. The beam source has an average forward velocity of 60– $70\;{\rm m}\;{{{\rm s}}^{-1}}$

Suppressing dipolar relaxation in thin layers of dysprosium atoms
The dipolar interaction can be attractive or repulsive, depending on the position and orientation of the dipoles. Constraining atoms to a plane with their magnetic moment aligned perpendicularly leads to a largely side-by-side repulsion and generates a ...

One-dimensional array of ion chains coupled to an optical cavity
We present a novel system where an optical cavity is integrated with a microfabricated planar-electrode ion trap. The trap electrodes produce a tunable periodic potential allowing the trapping of up to 50 separate ion chains aligned with the cavity and ...
