ATP-binding cassette transporters in human heart failure
Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology, 2008Adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette (ABC) transporters are involved in energy-dependent transport of substrates across biological membranes. We hypothesized that their expression is altered during human heart failure, suggesting a pathophysiologic basis.

ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 and cholesterol trafficking
Current Opinion in Lipidology, 2002Two hallmarks of cardiovascular disease are the presence of sterol-laden macrophages in the artery wall and reduced plasma HDL levels. A cell membrane protein named ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) mediates secretion of excess cholesterol from cells into the HDL metabolic pathway.

Pharmacogenetics of ATP-Binding Cassette Transporters and Clinical Implications
2009Drug resistance is a severe limitation of chemotherapy of various malignancies. In particular efflux transporters of the ATP-binding cassette family such as ABCB1 (P-glycoprotein), the ABCC (multidrug resistance-associated protein) family, and ABCG2 (breast cancer resistance protein) have been identified as major determinants of chemoresistance in ...

Hormonal regulation of ATP binding cassette transporters
2004Although the knowledge of ATP-binding cassette of lipid transport had grown substantially over the last few years, the detailed molecular mechanisms and the exact functions of these transporters were still awaiting clarification. In this thesis, analysis of the actions of human steroid and non-steroid hormones on cholesterol and phospholipid effluxes ...

Reversing Agents for ATP-Binding Cassette Drug Transporters
2009The multidrug resistance (MDR) phenotype exhibited by cancer cells is believed to be the major barriers to successful chemotherapy in cancer patients. The major form of MDR phenotype is contributed by a group of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) drug transporters which include P-glycoprotein, multidrug resistance-associated protein 1, and breast cancer ...
