IET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.This study evaluates surge arrester performance in mitigating transient overvoltages during 400 kV transmission line switching in Iran, using EMTP‐RV software and statistical switching. Simulation results show that modelling corona effects reduces the surge arrester counter operation considerably, aligning with practical observations.
