Biophysical and structural studies of chlorophyll biosynthetic enzymes magnesium chelatase and protochlorophyllide reductase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Photosynthetic organisms must generate chlorophyll, the light capturing molecule integral for photosynthesis, whilst also regulating production to adapt to environmental conditions. Chlorophyll is so fundamental for photosynthesis that it is important to

Establishing a Model Precursor System: Over a Decade of Research on Carbon Dots from the Citric Acid‐Urea System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The citric acid/urea (CA‐Urea) precursor system offers a versatile, scalable route to carbon dots with tunable luminescence and multifunctionality. Mechanistic insights into precursor chemistry and reaction parameters have enabled doping, surface modification, and hybridization strategies, yielding CDs for luminescent devices, sensing, catalysis ...

Organic Chemistry with a Biological Emphasis Volume I [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The traditional approach to teaching Organic Chemistry, taken by most of the textbooks that are currently available, is to focus primarily on the reactions of laboratory synthesis, with much less discussion - in the central chapters, at least - of ...

A full genome assembly reveals drought stress effects on gene expression and metabolite profiles in blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum L.) [PDF]

open access: yes
Blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum L., family Grossulariaceae) is a perennial shrub that is widely cultivated for its edible berries. These are rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, and anthocyanins, making them a valuable ingredient in the food and beverage industry.

Elucidating the Role of Surface Ligands on the Oxidative Etching of Au Bipyramids During Photothermia Using Liquid Cell Transmission Electron Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gold bipyramids can act as efficient plasmonic nanoheaters, but they often reshape during laser heating. This study shows that oxygen nanobubbles drive oxidative etching and that surface ligands control stability. CTAB‐ and citrate‐coated particles blunt and lose optical performance, whereas polystyrene sulfonate preserves shape and heating by ...

Exploring an Alternative to mRNA Vaccine Cold Chain Storage: MRNA‐Lipid Nanoparticle Stability When Dried in a Polymer Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The nanostructure, size, and function of mRNA‐loaded lipid nanoparticles are evaluated before drying, within polymer microneedles, and after rehydration. The results reveal the polymer and LNP loadings required to recover nanostructure and preserve the delivery performance in dry‐state formulations.

Nanoparticle Shape Dictates Catalytic Performance in Selective Hydrogenation of Butadiene Over Au‐Pd Core‐Shell Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the exposed crystal facet of shape‐controlled Au‐Pd core‐shell catalysts though colloidal synthesis enhances their catalytic performance in the industrially relevant selective hydrogenation of butadiene. ABSTRACT Selective hydrogenation of butadiene is a critical step in purification of alkene feedstocks for polymer production and is ...

Microbial Degradation of Benzene Derivatives [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The thesis is divided into two parts. Both deal with the microbial metabolism of benzene derivatives but in different aspects. Part I attempts to elucidate some new mechanisms and stereochemistry involved in muconic acid pathways, which commonly occur in

Coacervates Made of Elastin‐Like Polypeptides Fused with Melanocyte‐Stimulating Hormone and Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein Enhance Skin Wound Healing in Spinal Cord‐Injured Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Pressure skin wounds are frequent complications after spinal cord injury (SCI), with impaired healing due to vascular and immune deficits. Elastin‐like polypeptides (ELP) fused to α‐MSH (MSH‐ELP) or MCP‐1 (MCP‐ELP) are developed and tested on these wounds. The resulting nanoparticles are non‐toxic and bioactive, and they enhance macrophage recruitment,
