Linking Landslide Patterns to Transient Landscapes in the Northern Colombian Andes

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 130, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract Landslides are among the most recognizable evidence of hillslope erosion in tectonically active mountains. Yet, how much of the distribution of landslides of different ages relates to, or is inherited from, the pattern of topographic metrics of landscape evolution remains partially unresolved, and especially so in tropical areas.

Erosion and progradation in the Atrato River delta: A spatiotemporal analysis with Google Earth Engine

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia, 2020
The Atrato River Delta in Northwestern Colombia has experienced notable geomorphological changes in its shoreline in recent years. We analyze these changes, associated with erosion and progradation, using Landsat imagery and Google Earth Engine (GEE) algorithms to automatically identify the changes in an annual basis over 33 years (1986–2019).

The Role of Transpressional Tectonics, Volcanism, and Fluvial Processes on the Oligocene to Pliocene Evolution of Intermontane Basins of the Western Colombian Andes

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 44, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract We use new and published detrital zircon U‐Pb data (n > 10,000) from Oligocene‐Pliocene strata of intermontane basins of the western Colombian Andes and surrounding regions to study the evolution of sedimentary systems during the transition from arc collision/accretion to subduction.

The Quantified Galloway Ternary Diagram of Delta Morphology

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 129, Issue 11, November 2024.
Abstract Waves, rivers, and tides shape delta morphology. Recent studies have enabled predictions of their relative influence on deltas globally, but methods and associated uncertainties remain poorly known. Here, we address that gap and show how to quantify delta morphology within the Galloway ternary diagram of river, wave, and tidal sediment fluxes.
