They can arise from any heart chamber, but have rarely been described as originating from the left atrial appendage. We describe a case of left atrial appendage myxoma mimicking a left atrial appendage thrombus, and presenting with microembolization to the coronaries.

Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, 1999Narrowing at the mouth of the left atrial appendage has been reported after partial surgical ligation of the appendage. This report describes a patient, without prior cardiac surgery, who had an anatomic narrowing at the opening of the left atrial appendage demonstrated by 2-dimensional, Doppler, and color Doppler echocardiography.

Inverted left atrial appendage
The Japanese Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2000An unexpected left atrial mass was found during postoperative echocardiography in a 17-years old man following aortic valve replacement, suggesting thrombus, vegetation and neoplasm. Reoperation showed that the mass to be an inverted left atrial appendage. Left ventricular venting may cause such inversion.
