Sex‐stratified analysis of the safety of percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion
Catheterization and cardiovascular interventions, 2020There is insufficient current evidence about whether sex impacts outcomes of percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO). The aim of this study was to investigate the association between sex and short‐term outcomes of LAAO.

A 30-year-old woman presented with a history of palpitations for 15 years and dyspnoea on exertion for 6 years. Her symptomatic status had worsened from New York Heart Association (NYHA) class 2 to NYHA class 3 in the last 1 year. On clinical examination, she had evidence of congestive cardiac failure and rheumatic mitral valve disease.

Cerebral protection in left atrial appendage closure in the presence of appendage thrombosis
Catheterization and cardiovascular interventions, 2020Presence of thrombus in the left atrial appendage (LAA) remains a severe contraindication to the percutaneous left atrial appendage closure procedure (LAAC), due to increased embolic risk.

Stroke or systemic embolism is a devastating consequence of atrial fibrillation (AF) due to thrombus formation in the left atrial appendage (LAA). AF causes thrombus formation in the LAA due to both the loss of atrial systole and the unique anatomic features of the LAA. Oral anticoagulation is a well established and effective therapy to reduce the risk

The most appropriate treatment for stroke prevention in standalone atrial fibrillation patients with a high CHADS2VASC score contraindicated for oral anticoagulation (OAC) or novel OAC (NOAC) still needs to be defined. Percutaneous left atrial appendage (

Isomerism of the Atrial Appendages in the Fetus
Pediatric Pathology, 1991Thirty hearts from fetuses with visceral heterotaxy were examined to determine the range of cardiac malformations. By examining the morphology of the atrial appendages, 20 hearts were identified as having left isomerism (67%) and 10 hearts right isomerism (33%).

Morphology of the left atrial appendage
The Anatomical Record, 1995AbstractBackground: When examining the left atrial appendage by transesophageal echocardiography, differences in size and shape of the left atrial appendage are to be observed. The study was carried out with the aim of investigating the morphology of the left atrial appendage and to find associations with pathologic cardiac findings. Methods and results:

Left Atrial Appendage Stenosis
Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, 1999Narrowing at the mouth of the left atrial appendage has been reported after partial surgical ligation of the appendage. This report describes a patient, without prior cardiac surgery, who had an anatomic narrowing at the opening of the left atrial appendage demonstrated by 2-dimensional, Doppler, and color Doppler echocardiography.

Herniation of the left atrial appendage
The American Journal of Cardiology, 1965Abstract A case of herniation of the left atrial appendage through a partial defect in the left side of the pericardial sac is presented. The diagnosis was suspected on the basis of the chest roentgenogram and was proved by right and left heart cineangiography. The differential diagnosis is discussed.

Left Atrial Appendage Aneurysm
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2005Aneurysms of the left atrial appendage are exceedingly rare. Patients most commonly present with atrial tachyarrhythmias and thromboembolism. Resection of the aneurysm is usually curative. We present a case report of a 60-year-old female with a long-standing history of atrial arrhythmias found to have a large left atrial appendage aneurysm with ...
