Direct radioimmunoassay of atrial natriuretic factor

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1984
A direct radioimmunoassay of atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) has been developed. The method uses a synthetic 26 amino-acid fragment (8-33 ANF) of the native peptide. Antibodies have been prepared in rabbits immunized with the peptide coupled to thyroglobulin.

The physiology of atrial natriuretic factor

Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 1987
Following the discovery of the natriuretic effect of atrial extract, our laboratory attempted to dissect the possible physiological role of atrial natriuretic factor. Initial micropuncture experiments demonstrated that the reduction of tubular sodium reabsorption was localized in the medullary collecting duct, a nephron site in which sodium transport ...

Atrial natriuretic factor inhibits Na-K-Cl cotransport in teleost intestine.

American Journal of Physiology, 1985
Addition of atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) to the contraluminal side of the intestinal mucosa of a marine teleost, the winter flounder Pseudopleuronectes americanus, inhibits short-circuit current, net transepithelial fluxes of Na and Cl, and the ...

Release of atrial natriuretic factor

Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation, 1993
The cardiac atria synthesize and store a hormone termed atrial natriuretic factor (ANF). ANF is released into the systemic circulation, and the circulating 28 amino acid peptide can be measured by radioimmunoassay. The hormone participates in body fluid homeostasis through its effect on renal sodium excretion and by inducing a shift of circulating ...

Effect of different anesthetics on immunoreactive atrial natriuretic factor concentrations in rat plasma.

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications - BBRC, 1985
The effect of different conditions of blood withdrawal and use of different anesthetics on immunoreactive atrial natriuretic factor (IR-ANF) concentrations in plasma was studied in rats.

Atrial Natriuretic Factor in Gynecologic Malignancy

Obstetrics & Gynecology, 1995
To determine whether plasma atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) levels are different in patients with gynecologic malignancy compared with those in healthy, nonpregnant women, and if differences do exist, whether chemotherapy plays a role.We compared the plasma levels of ANF in nonpregnant women free of malignancy (group 1, n = 25) and in patients with ...

Atrial natriuretic factor inhibits the stimulation of aldosterone secretion by angiotensin II, ACTH and potassium in vitro and angiotensin II-induced steroidogenesis in vivo.

Endocrinology, 1984
Since atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) blocks the contractile effect of angiotensin II on vascular strips, we investigated the action of the synthetic 48-73 ANF (previously called 8-33 ANF) on another target tissue of angiotensin II, the adrenal ...

Optimization of atrial natriuretic factor radioimmunoassay

Clinical Biochemistry, 1989
The development and long-term performance of a radioimmunoassay method for cardionatrin (C I = ANF 99-126) is described. The method was evaluated for accuracy, specificity and precision using different protocols and in various species. The antiserum raised against C I cross-reacts 100% with both human and rat C I and 122% with cardionatrin IV (C IV ...

Specific receptor-mediated inhibition by synthetic atrial natriuretic factor of hormone-stimulated steroidogenesis in cultured bovine adrenal cells.

Endocrinology, 1984
The effect of synthetic atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) on adrenal steroidogenesis has been studied in primary culture of bovine adrenal cells. ANF-(8-33) produced a potent 40-70% inhibition of angiotensin II-, ACTH-, PGE1-, and forskolin-stimulated ...
