Connexins and the atrioventricular node [PDF]

open access: yesHeart Rhythm, 2013
The structure and functioning of the atrioventricular (AV) node has remained mysterious owing to its high degree of complexity. In this review article, we integrate advances in knowledge regarding connexin expression in the AV node. Complex patterning of 4 different connexin isoforms with single channel conductances ranging from ultralow to high ...

Ivabradine in the treatment of non‐paroxysmal junctional tachycardia with interference atrioventricular dissociation: A case report

open access: yesAnnals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology, 2023
Ivabradine reduces the heart rate by selectively inhibiting the If current of the sinoatrial node, mainly for the treatment of chronic heart failure with decreased left ventricular systolic function and inappropriate sinus tachycardia, but the inhibitory

Mesothelioma of the atrioventricular node. [PDF]

open access: yesHeart, 1985
A patient with Mobitz type 2 heart block caused by a mesothelioma of the atrioventricular node died of a subarachnoid haemorrhage at the age of 33 two years after implantation of a permanent pacemaker. Mesothelioma of the atrioventricular node is rare, and reported cases have all been diagnosed post mortem.

High-grade idiopathic atrioventricular block in childhood: Case report and literature review

open access: yesMedwave, 2022
Atrioventricular blocks are chronotropic abnormalities produced by multifactorial alterations in the cardiac innervation system, specifically between the internodal pathways between the sinus node and the atrioventricular node.

Does the atrioventricular node conduct? [PDF]

open access: yesHeart, 1989
It is difficult to be certain wh en the term "conduction" was first applied to the transfer of atrial activation to the ventricles .' In 1894, Engelmann used the word "Leitung", which can be translated as "connection" or as "conduction" .2 In 1906, Tawara described the atrioventricular node, which he termed "Das Reizleitungssystem des Herzens ".'

Successful Prevention of Fetal Autoimmune-Mediated Heart Block by Combined Therapies With Hydroxychloroquine and Intravenous Immunoglobulin: A Case Report

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2021
A fetal autoimmune-mediated atrioventricular block is a passively acquired autoimmune disease in which maternal autoantibodies enter the fetal circulation via the placenta and subsequently cause inflammation and fibrosis of the atrioventricular node ...

Coronary Sinus Activation Pattern in Patients with Atrioventricular Nodal Reentrant Tachycardia

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, 2007
Patterns of left atrial (far-field signals) or coronary sinus (CS) muscle (near-field) have been defined in CS recordings. The purpose of this study was to define the activation patterns from the coronary sinus in patients with anterior and posterior ...

Anatomic-electrophysiological correlations concerning the pathways for atrioventricular conduction. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The remarkable success of radiofrequency ablation in recent decades in curing atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardias has intensified efforts to provide a solid theoretical basis for understanding the mechanisms of atrioventricular transmission ...

The Role of Electrophysiologic Study in Device Selection for Leadless Atrial Pacing [PDF]

open access: yesTexas Heart Institute Journal
The AVEIR DR (Abbott Medical) was the first dual-chamber leadless pacing system approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Many patients with sinus node dysfunction have physiologically normal atrioventricular conduction, so an atrial-only pacing ...
