How are Radicals (Re)Generated in Photochemical ATRP?
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2014The polymerization mechanism of photochemically mediated Cu-based atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was investigated using both experimental and kinetic modeling techniques. There are several distinct pathways that can lead to photochemical (re)generation of Cu(I) activator species or formation of radicals.

Photoinduced ATRP of acrylonitrile with aniline as photoinitiator
Journal of Macromolecular Science, Part A, 2016ABSTRACTPhoto-mediated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of acrylonitrile (AN) was carried out at 25°C in N,N-dimethyl formamide (DMF) with aniline as photoinitiator. Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) with predictable average molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution was synthesized with 2-Bromopropionitrile (BPN) as ATRP initiator and ...

AbstractThe catalytic amount of inorganic bases (i.e., NaOH, Na3PO4, NaHCO3, and Na2CO3) and organic bases such as pyridine and triethylamine was used as the additives in an iron‐mediated atom transfer radical polymerization with activators generated by electron transfer (AGET ATRP) of a polar monomer methyl methacrylate (MMA) using FeCl3·6H2O as the ...

Diselenocarbamates, novel initiators in ATRP of styrene
Journal of Polymer Science Part A: Polymer Chemistry, 2015ABSTRACTThe atom transfer radical polymerizations (ATRPs) of styrene initiated by diselenocarbamates were carried out for the first time. The polymerization showed first‐order kinetic with respect to the monomer concentration, and the molecular weights of the obtained polymers increased linearly with the monomer conversions with narrow molecular weight

Synthesis and characterization of novel glycosurfaces by ATRP
Soft Matter, 2009The direct synthesis of well defined sugar methacrylate-based homopolymer brushes with high grafting densities based on D-gluconamidoethyl methacrylate (GAMA) and 2-lactobionamidoethyl methacrylate (LAMA) from functionalized gold substrates was carried out using surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP).

SARA ATRP or SET-LRP. End of controversy?
Polymer Chemistry, 2014A debate has proceeded in the literature regarding the mechanism of reversible-deactivation radical polymerization in the presence of Cu0. The two proposed models are supplemental activator and reducing agent atom transfer radical polymerization (SARA ATRP) and single electron transfer living radical polymerization (SET-LRP).

Contribution of Photochemistry to Activator Regeneration in ATRP
Macromolecules, 2014With the recent interest in photochemically mediated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), an interesting question arises: how significant are the photochemical processes in ATRP reactions that are supposed to be chemically controlled, such as initiators for continuous activator regeneration (ICAR) ATRP?

Electrochemically mediated ATRP of acrylamides in water
Polymer, 2015Abstract Electrochemically mediated atom transfer radical polymerization (eATRP) of acrylamide was investigated in aqueous media. The synthesis of poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly(acrylamide) block copolymers via eATRP under potentiostatic conditions was carried out.

Two decades of molecular brushes by ATRP
Polymer, 2015Abstract This review presents the development of brush copolymers as macromolecular engineering materials prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and reported by the Matyjaszewski's group during the last twenty years. The graft structures combine different segments which allowed to precisely design properties of macromolecules to ...
