Morphology and closing mechanism of the mandibular gland orifice in ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)
We investigated the area of the mandibular gland opening in ants. The shape of the opening area (mandalus) is highly variable across different ant taxa while retaining the same general organization. We propose an opening mechanism for the gland orifice that involves a ligament connecting the mandalus to the prepharynx and a lamella connecting mandalus ...

Abstract Under habitat loss and fragmentation, the intensity of local ecological processes involving species interactions changes pervasively, accelerating local species extinctions, and disrupting essential ecosystem functions. We addressed this issue by examining the direct population drivers of apex predators (five felid species), armadillo ...

Age Polyethism in Atta sexdens (Linnaeus) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)
This study aimed to verify age polyethism occurrence in medium-sized (cephalic capsule = 2.3 ± 0.21 mm) and small-sized (cc = 1.4 ± 0.10 mm) workers from Atta sexdens (Linnaeus) colonies. Four laboratory colonies were used, and they were maintained at 25 ± 2 °C, with 75 ± 3% relative humidity and a 12-hour photoperiod.
