Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Increasing Wheat Productivity under Variable and Changing Climatic Conditions in West Bengal, India

open access: yesInternational Journal of Bio-Resource and Stress Management, 2017
Wheat is the second important cereal crop after rice in West Bengal. However, its area of cultivation and production remain almost stagnant in recent years due to lower productivity of the crop.

Recent Developments in Arene Photocycloadditions

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2008
The photocycloaddition of alkenes with aromatic systems may proceed through three reaction modes, affording different types of products: ortho, meta, and para.

Resistance Rapid Heating of Aluminum Coatings in an Extreme High Vacuum–Adequate Atmosphere for Hot Stamping

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The subject of this work is the development of a corrosion‐protective coating on steel sheets for form hardening. Rapid heating in an extreme high vacuum (XHV)‐adequate atmosphere is a useful method to prevent oxidation during alloying of 22MnB5 and aluminum to obtain a metallurgical bonding.

Minimally entangled typical thermal states versus matrix product purifications for the simulation of equilibrium states and time evolution

open access: yes, 2015
For the simulation of equilibrium states and finite-temperature response functions of strongly-correlated quantum many-body systems, we compare the efficiencies of two different approaches in the framework of the density matrix renormalization group ...

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Low-hanging fruit? Identifying opportunities to enhance crop diversity in the United States

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
The benefits of crop diversification for key agro-environmental outcomes are well-established, yet the pathways to realizing this diversification at larger scales remain murky.

Polynomial Spline Collocation Methods for Volterra Integrodifferential Equations with Weakly Singular Kernels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper we investigate the attainable order of (global) convergence of collocation approximations in certain polynomial spline spaces for solution of Volterra integrodifferential equations with weakly singular kernels.

Constraints on Exotic Heavily Ionizing Particles from the Geological Abundance of Fullerenes

open access: yes, 1999
The C_{60} molecule exhibits a remarkable stability and inertness that leads to its survival in ancient carbonaceous rocks initially subject to the high temperatures requisite for its formation.
