One-way deficit and quantum phase transitions in $XX$ Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Quantum correlations including entanglement and quantum discord has drawn much attention in characterizing quantum phase transitions. Quantum deficit originates in questions regarding work extraction from quantum systems coupled to a heat bath [Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 180402 (2002)]. It links quantum thermodynamics with quantum correlations and provides a

A deficit that needs attention [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood, 2005
Commentary on the paper by Foreman et al (see page 245) The conclusions of the paper by Foreman and colleagues1 will not come as a surprise to any parent or paediatrician. Children who behave badly stress their parents. The normal methods of discipline work less well in the face of pervasive hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention.

Correlating galaxy shapes and initial conditions: an observational study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Using data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey we study correlations between directions of galaxy angular momenta determined from images of spiral galaxies and various observables derived from the reconstructed initial conditions. We find an apparent systematic effect consistent with galaxy-orientation-dependent selection function.

Attention Deficits in Patients with Narcolepsy [PDF]

open access: yesSleep, 2003
Although attention problems are presumably responsible for a wide variety of difficulties patients with narcolepsy experience in everyday life, empirical investigation of this issue is scarce. Therefore, we conducted a systematic investigation of different aspects of attention and verbal memory in patients with narcolepsy.Control-group design with ...
