“It's not as clear cut as autistic boys versus autistic girls.” Exploring autistic girls' experiences of mainstream secondary education

open access: yesJournal of Research in Special Educational Needs, EarlyView.
Abstract Traditionally, research and academic writing associated with autism in education has focused on males. Consequently, a range of complex factors has led to the misdiagnosis or late diagnosis of autistic female learners, rendering their needs unrecognised and inappropriately supported.

Working in partnership to support children and young people with selective mutism: A reflexive thematic analysis from parent and teacher perspectives

open access: yesJournal of Research in Special Educational Needs, EarlyView.
Abstract Selective mutism (SM) is an anxiety disorder where children can speak in some situations but are unable to do so in others, despite having age‐appropriate language skills. There is limited awareness and understanding of SM in both school settings and society, often leading to misunderstandings of affected children.
