Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Advancements in prostate zone segmentation: integrating attention mechanisms into the nnU-Net framework

open access: yesMachine Learning: Science and Technology
Prostate cancer is one of the most lethal cancers in the world. Early diagnosis is essential for successful treatment of prostate cancer. Segmentation of prostate zones in magnetic resonance images is an important task in the diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Automatic Segmentation of the Left Ventricle in Apical Four-Chamber View on Transesophageal Echocardiography Based on UNeXt Deep Neural Network

open access: yesDiagnostics
Background/Objectives: The automatic left ventricle segmentation in transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is of significant importance. In this paper, we constructed a large-scale TEE apical four-chamber view (A4CV) image dataset and proposed an ...

One size does not fit all: An in vitro evaluation of the effects of bezafibrate and medroxyprogesterone acetate on human SH‐SY5Y and U‐87 MG cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Drugs previously repurposed to target blood cancers reduced neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell growth and viability. However, their levels of anticancer activity were different and their clinical application may be problematic due to side effects at effective doses.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Attention-based U-Net Method for Autonomous Lane Detection

open access: yesCoRR
Lane detection involves identifying lanes on the road and accurately determining their location and shape. This is a crucial technique for modern assisted and autonomous driving systems. However, several unique properties of lanes pose challenges for detection methods.

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

CDAM-Net: Channel shuffle dual attention based multi-scale CNN for efficient glaucoma detection using fundus images

open access: yes
Glaucoma is a typical eye disorder that induces damage to the optic nerve due to increased intraocular pressure. It ultimately leads to partial or complete blindness without clinical reversal.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.
