Microplastic contamination in soils and its influence on consistency (Atterberg) limits
Microplastics (MPs) and their contamination in various environments, including soils, have already arisen as an alarming environmental threat, for which the civil engineering community has very limited awareness.

This study investigated the suitability of natural cinder gravel blended with fine‐crushed aggregates as a base course pavement material using laboratory tests and numerical simulations. Laboratory test results for natural cinder gravel indicated that cinder gravel alone failed to meet the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) standard specifications for ...

Soil classifiation for engineering purposes in Slovenia – how to proceed?
Principles of engineering soil classifiation used in Slovenia since 1948 are analysed and compared with the newly accepted European soil classifiation principles. The main differences in terminology, symbols and index properties are emphasised.

Chloride concentration and pHs influence on the Atterberg limits of Søvind Marl [PDF]
The Atterberg limits play a great role in the assessment and classification of soils. The pore water and it components have a great influence on the behavior of the clay. When finding the Atterberg limits, de-ionised water is used to homogenize the clay.

Mechanical Characterization and Damage Modeling of Adobe Blocks Stabilized With Natural Plant Fibers
This study evaluates the mechanical performance of adobe blocks stabilized with natural plant fibers derived from Hyparrhenia hirta (HH) and Stipa offneri (SO). To this end, adobe specimens were fabricated by incorporating plant fibers into the soil matrix at contents ranging from 0% to 1% by weight of soil, with increments of 0.2%.

Optimized Machine Learning Models for Estimating Soil Compaction Parameters From Index Properties
Accurate estimation of maximum dry density (MDD) and optimum moisture content (OMC) is important for geotechnical design; however, laboratory compaction testing is often time‐ and resource‐intensive. This study presents a metaheuristic‐enhanced machine learning (ML) framework coupling the giant Pacific octopus optimizer (GPO) with artificial neural ...
