Free-living fungal symbionts (Lepiotaceae) of fungus-growing ants (Attini: Formicidae)
Mycologia, 2009Surveys of leucocoprinaceous fungi (Lepiotaceae, Agaricales, Basidiomycota) in the rainforests of Panama and Brazil revealed several free-living counterparts of fungi cultivated by primitive attine ants (the lower Attini, Formicidae, Hymenoptera), adding to two such collections identified in a survey by Mueller et al (1998).

An introduction to the fungus-growing ants, Attini
1991Abstract Although the modern Formicidae are typically opportunist omnivores, the diets of most species, like those of their carnivorous ancestors, still contain a large proportion of nutritionally rich, animal protein. The subfamily Myrmicinae contains some notable exceptions, including the granivorous ants of arid regions for which ...

Dynamic Disease Management inTrachymyrmexFungus-Growing Ants (Attini: Formicidae)
The American Naturalist, 2013Multipartner mutualisms have potentially complex dynamics, with compensatory responses when one partner is lost or relegated to a minor role. Fungus-growing ants (Attini) are mutualistic associates of basidiomycete fungi and antibiotic-producing actinomycete bacteria; the former are attacked by specialized fungi (Escovopsis) and diverse generalist ...

Selective isolation of dematiaceous fungi from the workers of Atta laevigata (Formicidae: Attini)
Folia Microbiologica, 2011Leaf-cutting ants (Formicidae: Attini) are considered pests in agriculture for their impact in human crops, as they utilize leaf fragments to raise their fungal mutualist (Agaricales: Lepiotaceae). Basically, the basidiomycetous fungus is cultivated to supply food to adult workers and broads; in return, the ants protect it against natural enemies ...

Novel Phialophora species from leaf-cutting ants (tribe Attini)
Fungal Diversity, 2014Ants in the tribe Attini (Hymenoptera, Formicidae) maintain a 50 million-year-old lifestyle of co-evolution with symbiotic basidiomycetous fungi which they cultivate as essential source of nutrition. However, other microorganisms have been reported from ant habitats indicating a higher diversity of consistently associated species than established to ...

Výběr vhodného zdroje energie je podřízen výsledné váze a velikosti baterie.openaire +1 more source

The action of barbiturates, benzodiazepines and other drugs is studied on some vigilance related behaviors of Acromyrmex octospinosus with different tests: exploratory locomotion in response to novelty, intensity of individual escape behavior and protection of the symbiotic fungus by team-work. Methods and results are discussed.
