Judging Physical Attractiveness: Effects of Judges' Own Attractiveness

Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, 1975
Judges rated the physical attractiveness of others from pho tographs and were themselves photographed and rated on phy sical attractiveness. Male and female judges gave similar ratings to attractive targets, but when rating unattractive targets, male judges showed assimilation effects and female judges showed contrast effects.

The effect of red on attractiveness for highly attractive women

Current Psychology, 2021
Previous research has shown that red can increase men’s perception of women’s attractiveness. However, this effect is absent under certain conditions, such as when women have masculine, unattractive, or older features. We sought to test whether this red-attraction effect would be present at the other end of the continuum, specifically, for highly ...

Effect of Attraction on Interpersonal Aggression

The Journal of Social Psychology, 1990
The study was designed to test the hypothesis that attracted individuals will be less aggressive toward one another than less attracted individuals by using a broader and more ecologically valid manipulation of attraction and by comparing aggression between acquaintenances with aggression between strangers.

The Electrostatic Attraction and Catalytic Effect Enabled by Ionic–Covalent Organic Nanosheets on MXene for Separator Modification of Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

Advances in Materials, 2021
It is of great significance to mediate the redox kinetics and shuttle effect of polysulfides in pursuit of high‐energy‐density and long‐life lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries.

Effects of Instructor Attractiveness on Learning

The Journal of General Psychology, 2016
Although a considerable body of research has examined the impact of student attractiveness on instructors, little attention has been given to the influence of instructor attractiveness on students. This study tested the hypothesis that persons would perform significantly better on a learning task when they perceived their instructor to be high in ...

Sequential Effects in Face-Attractiveness Judgment

Perception, 2012
A number of studies have shown that current-trial responses are biased toward the response of the preceding trial in perceptual decisionmaking tasks (the sequential effect—Holland and Lockhead, 1968 Perception & Psychophysics3 409–414). The sequential effect has been widely observed in evaluation of the physical properties of stimuli as well as ...

'Three is better than two': Increasing donations with the attraction effect.

British Journal of Psychology, 2019
Five experiments (Ntotal  = 2,503) tested the attraction effect and its boundary conditions in the context of helping behaviour. Participants could choose one donation appeal in a set of either two or three alternatives.

Solvation effects on like-charge attraction

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2013
We present results of molecular dynamics simulations of the electrostatic interaction between two parallel charged rods in the presence of divalent counterions. Such polyelectrolytes have been considered as a simple model for understanding electrostatic interactions in highly charged biomolecules such as DNA.

Effects of Men's Physical Attractiveness on Interpersonal Attraction

Psychological Reports, 1984
This study provided an explanation of selections by others to meet based on composites of qualities imputed to the others. 60 undergraduate men made attraction-responses to male targets consensually identified as representative of five levels of attractiveness.
