Thermoelectric Modules Incorporating MgAgSb and Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 Synthesized Using a Melting Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable synthesis method for a thermoelectric material of MgAgSb is established. A thermoelectric power module of MgAgSb/Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 is fabricated, showing the conversion efficiency of 7.4% at ΔT = 315 K. The performance is comparable to conventional Bi2Te3 modules when they are operated with an air‐cooled heat exchanger.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Population of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Liquid High‐Silicon Electrical Steel in Contact With MgO–C Refractories Based on Recyclates and Environmentally Friendly Binders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...

Confounding and Bias in the Attributable Fraction

Epidemiology, 2011
Inappropriate methods are frequently used to calculate the population attributable fraction (AF) for a given exposure of interest. This commonly occurs when authors use adjusted relative risks (RRs) reported in the literature (the "source" data), without access to the original data.

Attributable fractions: fundamental concepts and their visualization

Statistical Methods in Medical Research, 2001
A general methodology for visualizing attributable fractions in epidemiology is described. The methodology applies to the multifactorial exposure situation and embraces various types of attributable fractions including adjusted, sequential and average attributable fractions.

Mediation Analysis with Attributable Fractions

Epidemiologic Methods, 2018
Abstract The attributable fraction is a common measure in epidemiological research, which quantifies the public health impact of a particular exposure on a particular outcome. Often, the exposure effect may be mediated through a third variable, which lies on the causal pathway between the exposure and the outcome.
