Seroprevalences of Newly Discovered Porcine Pestiviruses in German Pig Farms

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences, 2019
Several novel porcine pestiviruses that are linked to disease outbreaks in commercial pig farms were discovered during recent years. Bungowannah pestivirus (BuPV; new species Pestivirus F) causes sudden death in young pigs, but has only ever been ...

New Emergence of the Novel Pestivirus Linda Virus in a Pig Farm in Carinthia, Austria

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Linda virus (LindaV) was first identified in a pig farm in Styria, Austria in 2015 and associated with congenital tremor (CT) type A-II in newborn piglets.

The control of classical swine fever in wild boar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Classical swine fever (CSF) is a viral disease with severe economic consequences for domestic pigs. Natural hosts for the CSF virus (CSFV) are members of the family Suidae, i.e. Eurasian wild boar (sus scrofa) are also susceptible. CSF in wild boar poses

Detection and Investigation of Atypical Porcine Pestivirus within a Breed-to-Finish Farm and Off-Site Nursery and Finisher Locations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Atypical porcine pestivirus (APPV) has been associated with congenital tremors (CT) and splay leg (SL) in piglets of infected dams. The major cost of this virus is the increased pre-weaning mortality due to CT or SL interfering with the piglet’s ability ...

High Abundance and Genetic Variability of Atypical Porcine Pestivirus in Pigs from Europe and Asia

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2017
Atypical porcine pestivirus (APPV) was recently reported to be associated with neurologic disorders in newborn piglets. Investigations of 1,460 serum samples of apparently healthy pigs from different parts of Europe and Asia demonstrate a geographically ...

Bovine viral diarrhea virus: An updated American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine consensus statement with focus on virus biology, hosts, immunosuppression, and vaccination

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 34, Issue 5, Page 1690-1706, September 2020., 2020
Abstract Control of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) in cattle populations across most of the world has remained elusive in spite of advances in knowledge about this viral pathogen. A central feature of virus perseverance in cattle herds is the unique mechanism of persistent infection.

Viral Metagenomic Analysis Displays the Co-Infection Situation in Healthy and PMWS Affected Pigs. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
The development of high-throughput sequencing technologies have allowed the possibility to investigate and characterise the entire microbiome of individuals, providing better insight to the complex interaction between different microorganisms.

Fifty Shades of Erns: Innate Immune Evasion by the Viral Endonucleases of All Pestivirus Species. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The genus Pestivirus, family Flaviviridae, includes four historically accepted species, i.e., bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV)-1 and -2, classical swine fever virus (CSFV), and border disease virus (BDV).

Preparation, identification, and functional analysis of monoclonal antibodies against atypical porcine pestivirus NS3 protein. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Vet Diagn Invest, 2020
Atypical porcine pestivirus (APPV) had been detected in many countries. However, to date, a commercial detection kit is not available because of a lack of specific monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) to APPV. We generated 7 mAbs targeting the NS3 protein of APPV. Isotyping results indicated that all of these mAbs are IgG1 with a kappa light chain.

Congenital tremor and splay leg in Swedish piglets : a study of the viral causes and routes of transmission [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Congenital tremor (CT) and splay leg (SL) are diseases regularly seen in new-born piglets in Sweden. They are diagnosed based on the clinical picture, which in CT are tremor and sometimes ataxia, and in SL, a lack of adduction of the hind legs. The cause
