Vulnerability of the biota in riverine and seasonally flooded habitats to damming of Amazonian rivers

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 31, Issue 5, Page 1136-1149, May 2021., 2021
Abstract The extent and intensity of impacts of multiple new dams in the Amazon basin on specific biological groups are potentially large, but still uncertain and need to be better understood. It is known that river disruption and regulation by dams may affect sediment supplies, river channel migration, floodplain dynamics, and, as a major adverse ...

Possible Common Origin of B Chromosomes in Neotropical Fish (Siluriformes, Auchenipteridae) Reinforced by Repetitive DNA Mapping [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2021
The aim of this paper was to present the second case of B chromosomes in Auchenipteridae (Trachelyopterus sp.), and to test the hypothesis that the B chromosomes of this species and Parauchenipterus galeatus might have a common origin, since these two ...

Early ontogeny and swimming behavior of larvae of the neotropical fish Prochilodus costatus Valenciennes 1850 and Prochilodus argenteus Spix & Agassiz 1829 (Characiformes: Prochilodontidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Early development of fish larvae is a highly dynamic process and its study may provide important information about ontogenetic development, bioenergetic growth, behaviour, taxonomic characteristics for identification in natural environments ...

O efeito da floresta alagada na alimentação de três espécies de peixes onívoros em lagos de várzea da Amazônia Central, Brasil Effects of flooded forest in the diet of three fish species in floodplain lakes of Central Amazon, Brazil

open access: yesActa Amazonica, 2004
As enchentes anuais dos rios na Amazônia alagam extensas áreas de floresta conhecidas como várzeas ou igapós. Estas áreas têm papel importante na vida dos peixes da região, pois são fontes de alimento e de abrigo.

Auchenipteridae Bleeker 1862

open access: yes, 2009
Auchenipteridae There are six auchenipterid species inhabiting the upper rio Paraná, distributed in the genera Ageneiosus, Auchenipterus, and Trachelyopterus. Two Ageneiosus species colonized the upper Paraná after the Itaipu impoundment: A. inermis (formerly called A. brevifilis) and A. ucayalensis.
