Hearing Preservation Rates After Cochlear Implantation Using Soft Surgery Techniques

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To determine if hearing preservation rates after cochlear implantation varied over time with soft surgery techniques. Methods The hearing preservation rate over time in adult cochlear implant patients over 10 years was analyzed. The association between hearing preservation rate and sex, age, perioperative steroid dose, and type of ...

Transoral Ultrasound in the Diagnostic Workup of Peritonsillar Abscess—A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Peritonsillar abscess frequently mimics peritonsillar cellulitis, exposing many patients to unnecessary and often painful blind needle aspirations. In this multicenter randomized clinical trial of 95 patients, adding transoral ultrasound to standard examination reduced needle aspiration attempts by nearly one third.

Efeitos da radiação acústica na obtenção dos limiares ósseos Acoustic radiation effects on bone conduction threshold measurement

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2010
Radiação acústica é uma fuga da energia sonora do vibrador ósseo que pode ser detectada pela via aérea. A presença da radiação acústica poderia resultar em um limiar ósseo falso, um gap aéreo-ósseo irreal, nas frequências altas.

Vocal Outcomes After Cell‐Based Outer Vocal Fold Implant in Porcine Bilateral Vocal Fold Resection

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Cell‐based outer vocal fold replacement (COVR) was evaluated in a porcine model of bilateral vocal fold injury using longitudinal acoustic analysis and histologic assessment. COVR implantation resulted in recovery of the nonperiodic acoustic parameter Q50 to preoperative levels by 6 months, with implanted human adipose‐derived stem cells detected in 7 ...
