Fish welfare in a changing world: New developments and current challenges

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The welfare of non‐human animals is central to ethical discussions on animal use, with increasing attention to fish welfare across research, aquaria, aquaculture, and fisheries. This paper reviews current theoretical approaches to animal welfare and recent advances in defining and assessing fish welfare since the seminal paper by Huntingford ...

Autonomic Function in Fragile X Syndrome: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Intellectual Disability Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is a monogenic X‐linked cause of intellectual disability and autism. Individuals with FXS often have high levels of anxiety and sometimes display challenging behaviours. Autonomic dysfunction has been suggested to be one physiological mechanism that may contribute to these.

Double dissociation between conduction aphasia and conduction agraphia supports a ventro‐dorsal partition of the left arcuate fasciculus

open access: yesJournal of Neuropsychology, EarlyView.
Abstract We identified in two awake surgery cases a postoperative double dissociation between phonological and graphemic output buffer deficits. Using lesion‐symptom mapping from ischaemic mini‐strokes and preoperative tractography, we demonstrated that the phonological (resp. graphemic) disorder fitted with ventral (resp.

Educational attainment mitigates hippocampal‐related episodic memory decline in individuals at risk of Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesJournal of Neuropsychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Ageing and Alzheimer's disease lead to declines in the brain region underlying memory for past events (hippocampus), and subsequently in memory for past events (episodic memory). However, some people show considerable adaptability in maintaining cognitive processes despite brain ageing or disease.

Cytoarchitecture and myeloarchitecture of the sheep auditory cortex

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
This article describes the cyto‐ and myeloarchitecture of the sheep auditory cortex. It outlines a six‐layered cortical organization, with variations in cellular types and densities. The potential location of the primary auditory cortex is indicated by parvalbumin immunostaining.
