Estimation of auditory spatial cues for Binaural Cue Coding [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing, 2002
Binaural Cue Coding (BCC) offers a compact parametric representation of auditory spatial information. This representation can be applied to stereophonic or multi-channel audio compression. It allows to reconstruct the spatial image given a mono audio signal and spatial cues that require only a low data volume.

A review on auditory space adaptations to altered head-related cues

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2014
In this article we present a review of current literature on adaptations to altered head-related auditory localization cues. Localization cues can be altered through ear blocks, ear molds, electronic hearing devices and altered head-related transfer ...

Demonstrating the potential for dynamic auditory stimulation to contribute to motion sickness. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Auditory cues can create the illusion of self-motion (vection) in the absence of visual or physical stimulation. The present study aimed to determine whether auditory cues alone can also elicit motion sickness and how auditory cues contribute to motion ...

Negative emotion provides cues for orienting auditory spatial attention

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
The auditory stimuli provide information about the objects and events around us. They can also carry biologically significant emotional information (such as unseen dangers and conspecific vocalizations), which provides cues for allocation of attention ...

Cueing Visual Attention to Spatial Locations With Auditory Cues

open access: yesJournal of Eye Movement Research, 2008
We investigated exogenous and endogenous orienting of visual attention to the spatial loca-tion of an auditory cue. In Experiment 1, significantly faster saccades were observed to vis-ual targets appearing ipsilateral, compared to contralateral, to the peripherally-presented cue.

The Role of Interaural Differences, Head Shadow, and Binaural Redundancy in Binaural Intelligibility Benefits Among School-Aged Children

open access: yesTrends in Hearing, 2021
In complex listening environments, children can benefit from auditory spatial cues to understand speech in noise. When a spatial separation is introduced between the target and masker and/or listening with two ears versus one ear, children can gain ...

DO YOU SEE WHAT I HEAR? A VANTAGE POINT PREFERENCE AND VISUAL DOMINANCE IN A TIME-SPACE SYNAESTHETE

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2013
Time-space synaesthetes ‘see’ time units organized in a spatial form. While the structure might be invariant for most synaesthetes, the perspective by which some view their calendar is somewhat flexible.

Motor Training: Comparison of Visual and Auditory Coded Proprioceptive Cues

open access: yesi-Perception, 2012
Self-perception of body posture and movement is achieved through multi-sensory integration, particularly the utilisation of vision, and proprioceptive information derived from muscles and joints.

Equivalent Behavioral Facilitation to Tactile Cues in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2021
The alerting network, a subcomponent of attention, enables humans to respond to novel information. Children with ASD have shown equivalent alerting in response to visual and/or auditory stimuli compared to typically developing (TD) children.

Visual Distance Cues Amplify Neuromagnetic Auditory N1m Responses

open access: yesi-Perception, 2011
Ranging of auditory objects relies on several acoustic cues and is possibly modulated by additional visual information. Sound pressure level can serve as a cue for distance perception because it decreases with increasing distance.
