Region-specific reduction of auditory sensory gating in older adults
Brain and Cognition, 2015Aging has been associated with declines in sensory-perceptual processes. Sensory gating (SG), or repetition suppression, refers to the attenuation of neural activity in response to a second stimulus and is considered to be an automatic process to inhibit redundant sensory inputs.

Cortical Regions Associated with Visual-Auditory Integration: an fNIRS study
2019 7th International Winter Conference on Brain-Computer Interface (BCI), 2019This paper is to explore the specific cortical regions associated with a visual-auditory integration. Cortical activities were acquired by fNIRS during rhythm game which offered visual-auditory stimulation with synchronous and asynchronous situations. Nine subjects have participated in the experiment.

Histochemical identification of cortical areas in the auditory region of the human brain
Experimental Brain Research, 2002Despite numerous studies stretching over the last 100 years there is still no general agreement on the number of auditory areas in the human cortex or even how to define them by histological methods. Full definition of these areas will require a combination of functional and histological methods but, by using six complementary histological methods, of ...

Amphibia: A Case of Diversity and Convergence in the Auditory Region
2016The ears of extant amphibians are remarkably diverse and when fossil taxa are considered, the picture becomes even more complicated. Anurans have a differentiated stapes inside a middle ear cavity associated with a eustachian tube and tympanum. Instead, salamanders and caecilians have rudimentary stapes connected to the cheek or jaw articulation, and ...

Communicating Between Auditory Regions and the Rest of the Brain
Abstract The auditory ventral stream interconnects areas of auditory cortex anterior and inferior to primary regions with structures in the inferior frontal cortex, orbitofrontal cortex, and medial temporal lobe, among others. This pathway is particularly important for maintaining representations of sound patterns as they unfold in time.openaire +2 more sources
