Long-term learning behavior in a recurrent neural network for sound recognition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper, the long-term learning properties of an artificial neural network model, designed for sound recognition and computational auditory scene analysis in general, are investigated. The model is designed to run for long periods of time (weeks to

Auditory Processing Assessment in older people with no report of hearing disability

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2008
Summary: In the elderly, the results of central auditory pathways behavioral assessments are considered to be difficult to read because of the possible interference of peripheral auditory pathway involvement.

W-shaped auditory threshold curves of masu salmon Oncorhynchus masou

open access: yes, 1992
We made experiments to measure the auditory threshold of masu salmon Oncorhynchus mason using conditioning with electric shock, and also to determine the resonance frequency of masu salmon and rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss swim bladders.

Exploring AAV‐Mediated Gene Therapy for Inner Ear Diseases: from Preclinical Success to Clinical Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current preclinical studies of AAV‐mediated gene therapy explore different strategies based on the characteristics of inner ear diseases. For genetic hearing loss, approaches include the replacement of a “good gene,” removal of a “bad gene,” or direct correction of mutations through base editing.

Differences in Stress-Induced Modulation of the Auditory System Between Wistar and Lewis Rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2018
Many aspects of stress-induced physiological and psychological effects have been characterized in people and animals. However, stress effects on the auditory system are less explored and their mechanisms are not well-understood, in spite of its relevance

Mechanisms of sensorineural cell damage, death and survival in the cochlea. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The majority of acquired hearing loss, including presbycusis, is caused by irreversible damage to the sensorineural tissues of the cochlea. This article reviews the intracellular mechanisms that contribute to sensorineural damage in the cochlea, as well ...

Auditory threshold and critical ratio of black rockfish Sebastes schlegeli

open access: yes, 1996
The auditory threshold of the black rockfish Sebastes schlegeli was determined by heartbeat conditioning using six pure tone stimuli from 100Hz to 1000Hz, which was coupled with an electric shock.

NOX2 Contributes to High‐Frequency Outer Hair Cell Vulnerability in the Cochlea

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study first identifies NOX2 as a differentially expressed gene related to oxidative damage in the apical and basal turns through single‐cell RNA sequencing. NOX2 gene knockout mitigates OHCs damage caused by neomycin and noise and enhances Nrf2 expression and nuclear translocation.

Noise and children′s health: Research in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and Newly Independent States

open access: yesNoise and Health, 2013
Many reviews have documented the adverse effects of noise on children′s health, but the international scientific community was previously unfamiliar with noise research in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), South-East Europe (SEE), and Newly Independent ...
