Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 14, 22 July 2026.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Auger Electron Spectroscopy

Vacuum, 1994
Different energetic beams can be used for excitation of solids with the creation of holes in electronic levels: photons, ions, electrons. In this chapter only the electron impact excitation will be taken into account, but many of the conclusions can easily be extended to other excitation modes.

Auger electron spectroscopy

Journal of Electron Spectroscopy and Related Phenomena, 1986
Abstract This article describes the principles and applications of Auger electron spectroscopy (AES). It provides information on the instrumentation typically used in the AES, including an electron gun, an electron spectrometer, a secondary electron detector, and an ion gun. The article also describes experimental methods and limitations

Auger Electron Spectroscopy

1975
When a vacancy is formed in one of the inner shells of an atom, it may be filled by either a radiative (x ray) or nonradiative (Auger) process. In most instances nature chooses the Auger process. Only when the transition energy exceeds roughly 10 keV is x-ray emission predominant.

Auger electron spectroscopy

Surface Science, 1971
Abstract Auger Electron Spectroscopy has recently emerged as one of the most sensitive methods of surface analysis and is becoming widely accepted due to the relative simplicity of the LEED-Auger and cylindrical mirror analyzers. There is thus a need for a review describing the underlying physical principles of the Auger process and containing a ...

Deconvolution techniques in Auger electron spectroscopy

Surface Science, 1971
The use of Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) as a tool for the study of band structure or Auger processes in solid has been limited by the lack of resolution resulting from the excitation and measurement methods used in AES. In addition to these instrument broadening effects, it is found that discrete, inelastic interactions of Auger electrons in solid

Auger electron spectroscopy

Contemporary Physics, 1973
Abstract Auger spectroscopy has progressed from its initial use as a purely research tool to that of an analytical technique of general application wherever information about the composition of non-volatile surfaces is important. This, article describes the underlying physics of the Auger process and the instrumentation involved, discusses the reasons ...

Spin-polarized Auger-electron spectroscopy

Physical Review B, 1987
A comprehensive review of spin-polarized Auger-electron spectroscopy on 3d transition-metal ferromagnets is presented. The kind of information obtained from the Auger-electron spin polarization depends on the particular transition involved. Decays with emission of a valence electron probe the local magnetization at the site where the transition occurs.

Auger Electron Spectroscopy in the Scanning Electron Microscope: Auger Electron Images

Applied Physics Letters, 1971
A two-dimensional surface chemical analysis over an area on a metal specimen has been accomplished by means of high-spatial-resolution Auger electron spectroscopy in a computerized scanning electron microscope. The experimental results are presented in graphic form by the new method of Auger electron imaging.

Principle of Auger Electron Spectroscopy

2021
The excitation process of an Auger electron is explained in this chapter. An Auger transition, labeled as KL2L3, occurs through a mechanism involving three electrons in 1s1/2, 2p1/2, and 2p3/2 energy levels of an analyte element, which can be utilized for the elemental analysis because the Auger electron emitted from the 2p3/2 orbital has a particular ...
