Augmenting reality for augmented reality
Interactions, 2016There are two competing narratives for the future of computationally augmented spaces. On the one hand, we have the Internet of Things [1], where the narrative is one of making our environments more aware of us and of themselves, and generally making everything “smarter” through embedded computation, sensing, and actuation.

Virtual Reality is becoming more than a part of our everyday life, helping us to identify quickly the elements of the environment or to better entertain us. The purpose of this paper is to present an application framework that we are developing, in order to help others implement their own applications.

Proceedings of DARE 2000 on Designing augmented reality environments, 2000
In this paper, we first present a brief review of approaches used for studying and designing Augmented Reality (AR) systems. The variety of approaches and definitions in AR requires classification. We define two intrinsic characteristics of AR systems, task focus and nature of augmentation.

In this paper we present an augmented reality binocular system to allow long range high precision augmentation of live telescopic imagery with aerial and terrain based synthetic objects, vehicles, people and effects. The inserted objects must appear stable in the display and must not jitter and drift as the user pans around and examines the scene with ...

The Virtuality and Reality of Augmented Reality
Journal of Multimedia, 2007This thesis explores the creative possibilities and implications of Augmented Reality, not just as a specific technology of computer science, but as one of high technologies that influence people’s perception and even the concepts of the real and the virtual.

Proceedings of the International Conference & Workshop on Emerging Trends in Technology - ICWET '11, 2011
Augmented Reality is a technology that supplements the real world with virtual information that appears to coexist in the same space as the real world. Digital information does not have to be restricted only to vision but it can vary to other types of sensory information including hearing and touch which contribute to the sense of immersivity of an AR (
