Beyond species means – the intraspecific contribution to global wood density variation

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Wood density is central for estimating vegetation carbon storage and a plant functional trait of great ecological and evolutionary importance. However, the global extent of wood density variation is unclear, especially at the intraspecific level. We assembled the most comprehensive wood density collection to date, including 109 626 records from

On the (Mis)Use of Machine Learning With Panel Data

open access: yesOxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We provide the first systematic assessment of data leakage issues in the use of machine learning on panel data. Our organising framework clarifies why neglecting the cross‐sectional and longitudinal structure of these data leads to hard‐to‐detect data leakage, inflated out‐of‐sample performance, and an inadvertent overestimation of the real ...

Salivary and Serum Cytokine Concentrations in Kidney Transplantation: A Prospective Study

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) experience immune modulation, which may lead to graft rejection and other adverse outcomes. Although serum cytokines are well‐established systemic immune markers, the role of salivary biomarkers has never been reported in the literature.

Effectiveness of Platelet‐Rich Fibrin for Temporomandibular Disorders Management: A Systematic and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study systematically reviewed the effect of intra‐articular injection (IAI) of platelet‐rich fibrin (i‐PRF), alone or combined with arthrocentesis or arthroscopy, in managing painful articular temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and improving maximum mouth opening (MMO).

Restoring soil and tree nutrition through non‐industrial wood ash additions to sugarbushes

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Nutrient losses from forest soils caused by decades of acid deposition have affected tree growth and depleted soils of essential nutrients in eastern North America. Non‐industrial wood ash (NIWA) is rich in macronutrients and may be a potential remediation strategy to restore lost nutrients as a forest soil amendment.
